Shade of Alyssa: Make Up Edition

For today's Shade of Alyssa, I am going to share with all of you what I use for make up everyday. I swear by these products!

The first thing I put on is primer. I use Rimmel London's Stay Matte Primer. It makes my face feel super soft, never makes me break out & holds my make up well. I bought mine at Ulta for $5.99. Can't beat that!

Ever since I started using bareMinerals Foundation & Warmth, I have been in love. I will never use another product that's how in love with Bare Minerals I am! It is light weight, never makes me looked "caked" on and I never break out from it. I swear by this stuff!

This video changed my life on how to apply it correctly.

Then I apply some eye shadow to my lower lid as an eyeliner. I love CoverGirl eye shadow, this color brown is the perfect liner color. The tool I use is amazing for doing just that. You can find them at a lot of places, but I usually buy mine at Ulta. I like the way eye shadow looks more natural than a liner pencil.

This is the look I usually go for when doing my eyeliner.

Then I finish the look off with some CoverGirl Lash Blast mascara. I love the black waterproof volumizing mascara. It stays on really well & gives my eyelashes some volume (which I need because my eyelashes are really short). I use an eyelash curler to give them more dimension.

Occassionally, I'll also use CoverGirl blush.

So that's it y'all! That's what I do every day for my make up routine! I always welcome ideas for new products to try so shoot me a message if you have an idea!

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

My Must Have Accessories: Statement Necklaces

I love a good statement necklace. It really adds to an outfit & a go-to for date nights, weddings, or even to liven up a day outfit.

These are some of my favorite necklaces, but I probably own about 10 more. This is definitely also a shade of Alyssa. Therefore, today's post is both a Favorite Accessories and Shade post. If you missed my post on another one of my favorite accessories, boots, look here. For my Shade of Alyssa posts, where I share little tidbits about who I am each week, look here.

There are so many fun ways to wear a statement necklace!

Wear it with a sweater.

Wear it with a chambray or other button down top.

Wear it with stripes.

Wear it as a fun pop of color.

Wear it dressy for a function, work or a date night.

Wear it to a wedding.

I could really go on and on with it.

Here's me & some ways I have worn my statement necklaces lately.

Target has some really great statement necklaces for Spring.

These are my favorite ones but there are a lot of different styles. Right now Target accessories are buy one, get one 50% off through the 3/28/15. They also have some wicked cute wallets (just sayin'). Ya'll you can't beat the Target prices & now is the time to stock up! I'm headed over to our Target tomorrow! (Our closest one is a 30 minute drive! But I am dedicated!)

A lot of my statement necklaces were boutique finds but browsing I also found these that look a lot like the ones I own. Both are also from Target.

Happy Spring!

PS - Big thank you to Target!  Also, this post contains a few affiliate links - which means that if you click on a link and purchase an item I may receive a small commission.
THANK YOU!!!

Shade of Alyssa: Wall Decor

Something that I take a lot of pride in is filling my home with memories with my family and friends. I love decorating with photos. It is definitely a shade of who I am. I love when I walk through each room in my home I am can relive a special memory with my family by looking around.

Our living room.

By our front entryway closet.

Our bookshelf is where we have photos of our families.

Our staircase.

Our upstairs hallway.

Our Master Bedroom.

Some tips I have for decorating with photos

-Black and white photos always look classier.

-Match frames to overall feel of the room.
(We have a black coffee table and media console in our living room so we went with black frames)

-Buy frames that allow for mounting.

 Like this.

It always looks more put together.

-Play around with arrangements, add fun signs, etc.

That's what we did on our stairs.

-Less is more, in my opinion, don't over clutter a space with so many picture frames.

-Switch out the pictures a few times a year to keep photos updated.
Riley is constantly growing, so I keep some from when she was little and change out a few every so often to have some more current photos of her.

You can really make a space feeling homey and comfortable by adding personal photos to your wall decor.

I hope this post has inspired you to add a personal touch to your decorating.

Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday!

Shade of Alyssa: A Pisces Girl

Today is my 27th birthday. I was born on March 10th, 1988. Therefore, I thought that it would be fitting to give you all a little more insight into what my birthday means, as a Shade of Alyssa for this week.

Just for fun, here at some celebrities I share my birthday with.

Carrie Underwood, Country Music Singer.

Jen Arnold, from Little Couple on TLC.

Olivia Wilde, actress.

Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.

Barbara Cocoran, Real Estate Mogul & Business Expert. She stars on ABC's Shark Tank.

Lydia McLaughlin, Real Housewives of OC.

It's interesting to me to see who I share a birthday with. I see bits of my personality in a lot of these celebrities.

I share a Pisces sign with people like George Washington, Albert Einstein, Steve Jobs, Nat King Cole, Ansel Adams and many others.

Here's what Zodiac Signs Astrology and Ganesha Speaks has to say about a Pisces (taken directly from their websites).

Strengths:
-Kind
-Compassionate
-Intuitive
-Sensitive
-Selfless

Weaknesses:
-Escapist (avoid dealing with things)
-Idealistic
-Weak-willed
-Over-sensitive
-Indecisive

In a nutshell...

Pisces are a Water Sign and are therefore very emotional people. Just like still waters, their emotions can be deep, or like flowing water, they can be shallow. Moreover, their emotions don’t remain consistent. They are prone to mood changes. They are such great dreamers that they can spend their entire life in a world of their own. However, their intuition is so sharp that they can easily relate to other people’s thoughts, which is quite unique in the entire Zodiac. They have a deep insight into human nature and the world around them, and thus they trust their intuition more than what they see and hear.

While dealing with the real world, the Fish may become rather impractical at times, and they also might feel somewhat uncomfortable, though, they are quite independent and brave. Their stubborn independent streak seldom allows them to be dependent on others. When in trouble, these women can surprise you with their inner strength.

They trust their gut feelings and if they do not, they quickly learn to because they realize that their hunches are usually correct. Pisces downfall is their sensitivity and their inability to reject another person. They do not like rejection and they try to treat others the way they want to be treated so they will rarely say no to a person for fear of hurting their feelings. They will help another person with their problems and like to do so because making others feel good in turn makes them feel good. Pisces eternal struggle is to learn to use their powers and their imagination in a positive, productive way and vying for emotional stability by not giving away their emotions to everyone else, they need to help themselves.

Pisces are very good at understanding people for they have the ability to delve into the psyche and see behind a person's motivations. Pisces are not the pushovers that they may seem, in fact they have strength of character and will stand up for what they believe in and and they can do hard work for something they believe in. They can be very lazy but only in matters that they do not care about. Pisces is the most sensitive of all zodiac signs.

On Relationships..
A Pisces will go out of their way to help a friend. They are extremely sensitive and loyal. They also have a foul temper, but as long as you treat them well, it will not surface. The Pisces women can be very impractical and indecisive, which can hamper them when dealing with ground realities. In order to avoid pain and hurt feelings, they would simply avoid arguments.

The Pisces women have a strong need to be loved and guarded, and even if they slightly feel that they are being neglected, they can feel very hurt. They are so sensitive that one has to be very careful while interacting with them. She makes a man feel like a man because of her need for a protector and leader. She is charming, soft and feminine. What she needs in return is a man to protect and cherish her, make her feel like she is needed and loved. She might almost be clingy and dependent but never overbearingly. She needs patience and sympathy and you have to be gentle with her. Don't poke fun or tease and definitely do not reject her harshly because she can't stand rejection.

On Business..
Pisces are excellent at anything that tugs at the heart strings and mystical/spiritual. They are extremely creative and can use their skills of creativity and their understanding of people to inspire others.

Temperament..
Pisces are molded by their surroundings, they incorporate their experiences and surroundings into themselves. They have extreme compassion and they feel the pain of others. If something is wrong in the world that affects them, it affects them deeply, they take it to heart and feel extreme feelings regarding the matter.

A lot of what these websites has to say is very true about me. I feel things deeply  and can be very sensitive and I am very intuitive about people and what they are feeling. I am passionate about the things I care about and I can be so stubborn. I am definitely a true Pisces.

What sign are you?
