This was one of the best things we put on our baby registry. It is one of the more expensive items, but definitely worth the money. When babies are really little they need a lot of things to soothe them. We had the swing. I could put Riley in there and put the swing on and she would sleep peacefully while I tried to get things done around the house. There were some nights that she would actually sleep in the swing when she was having a hard time and she would sleep through the night. It can as a big help when she had some acid reflux and needed to be positioned at an angle rather than flat on her back. I really love the soft material in the Fisher Price ones. She was just so cozy and happy in her swing! And when she was awake the swing has a reflective mirror, a bird mobile and music to entertain her. She loved it!
A Boppy pillow is a must if you plan on nursing. When they are really little it isn't that hard to hold her while she nurses, but as they put on weight, it can be really tiring on your arms, the Boppy makes it really comfortable for both you and baby. Riley also spent some time sleeping on it while in my lap to give my arms a break so I didn't have to hold her up the whole time. **Disclosure-don't leave baby unattended while resting on the Boppy**
An Ergo carrier or a Moby Wrap are amazing to have with a newborn. If you are out and about running errands, it is such a great spot to put your baby while you shop. Riley would nap in it while I was grocery shopping and I had both my hands free. It is perfect to tote you baby around in while you're out and about. It is also amazing for the airport. You now have two hands free to roll luggage AND you don't have to take your baby out going through security! Win, win!
When Riley was getting to an age where she didn't want to just lay on the ground but couldn't crawl or walk we put her in her walker to give her a new point of view. She was so happy sitting up and playing with toys. This walker, in particular, was perfect for this because it had a tray with room to put other toys on it. When she started to become more mobile but couldn't walk yet, this was the perfect stepping stone to that. She was able to explore more and it made her so happy! Definitely worth getting! You'll spend a lot less time having to hold or carry your baby around.
One of THE best things we received from our registry. The bassinet attachment is key here. It eliminates the need for a pack n' play AND a bassinet. You have it all built in one. So when you go visit family and friends, you already have the bed for your newborn. When they get a bit older and outgrow the bassinet, you just take the bassinet attachment off. I also love that it has a changing table too. Riley spent the first 5 months sleeping in this in our room. It worked perfectly! Plus, babies are comforted by being cozy and cuddled in (hence why we swaddle babies!), so this bassinet definitely helped Riley sleep better in the beginning!
A travel system stroller was really amazing to have. I will say our particular brand (shown above) had some issues with the front wheel being hard to steer, but I wanted to show you what we have for reference. There are lots of brands and styles to choose from! What I love about a travel system is it grows with your baby. When Riley was a newborn, having the option to just click the car seat in and go was great! It was perfect for the times she would fall asleep in the car and then we'd get somewhere and be able to click her in and she could stay asleep as we walked around somewhere. It was awesome!
Having a light weight umbrella stroller is really nice too for when they get a little older and you don't want to lug a big stroller around everywhere. I love this one because it has a basket underneath for easy storage. It doesn't fit a lot, but it can hold jackets, blankets, toys, etc. and then I would just wrap my purse around the handles on the back. This is great for quick trips to the mall.
When Riley was facing away from us in her infant car seat, this gave me piece of mind when I was driving to see exactly what she was doing. If she made a funny noise, I could see her and know that she wasn't choking. Definitely worth it to put on your registry.
We actually didn't put on of these on our registry and I really regretted it! Babies get board not having much to look at when they are on the floor. A play gym keeps a baby entertained and gives them so independent time. I really love this one because it grows with baby. When Riley was learning to stand, this would've been perfect to entertain her.
One of the best things for sleep training your child. It drowns out other noise and I swear it helped Riley sleep through the night sooner!
Giving a newborn a bath isn't easy! They are squirmy and to try to clean them with one hand is tough work. A baby bath made it simple to just put her in and have both hands to clean her. I really love this one because it grows with baby and can be used for your toddler too.
Here's a list of things I think are really not that necessary to put on your registry...
-Bath Toy Scoop
Check out my post here for an easier, more cost effective way to put away bath toys.
-Bottle Warmer
Just microwave some water in a large glass then submerged the bottle in the glass until warm.
-Baby Shoes
Just put them in socks, there really is no need until they are walking.
-Wipe Warmer
Takes way to much time and you child will get used to it.
-Special Baby Detergent
Just look for Free & Clear detergents that your whole family can use. No sense doing separate loads of laundry for your baby.
