Show & Tell Tuesday: When I Grow Up

Linking up with Andrea for another edition of Show and Tell Tuesdays and today we are sharing all about what we wanted to be when we grew up.

There were really only three things I ever wanted to be when I grew up. I wanted to be a Professional Basketball Player, a Children's Book Author and the most consistent, a Teacher.

I loved playing basketball as a kid, so I went through a phase where I was so focused on the sport I couldn't imagine doing anything else.

In first and second grade, we practiced our writing by creating story books. I loved it. In fact, so much so that I spent time during Summer vacation continuing to write story books while I sat outside on our big rock.

Being a teacher, though, was something that pretty much stuck with me up through the beginning of college. When I would play with my neighborhood friends, we would play school all the time, and I always wanted to be the teacher. When it wasn't my turn I would get upset. I love coming up with "homework" and tests and crafts for my friends to do. We would put desks together and have circle time; the whole thing! In actual school, I loved helping the teacher with tasks and I loved going to younger classrooms to help them practice reading. It was so much fun to me!

I entered college with the intent to pursue Education through an accelerated Master's program and I would be done in 5 years. Once at school, I realized that I wanted to broaden my degree to a Psychology degree to leave doors open in other areas and then I went on to pursue a Master's in Business Administration. So I definitely veered off the Teacher path with my education.

I think what I have always really wanted was to be a mom. That is my true calling. It is the best thing I have ever done and my most important work.

I do have ideas of pursuing various things once my kids are in grade school. Teaching is a big possibility when that time comes. Right now, I am focused on being home with my daughter and making the most of this time we have together. We'll see what God has planned.
